My first view of the Andes. The new Quito airport lies some 30 KM outside of town and is situated on one of these ridges. There is a comfortable, inexpensive, airconditioned bus from the airport into town. If you have the money or are pressed for time, the taxi will get you into town much faster. |

From my room window I could see this huge angel dominating the skyline. Look at those two people on the walk below it, for scale. |

The hostel where I stayed and the steep street into town. This is the shallow part. It really gets steep on the bottom half. |

The people in the hostel recommended to go up to this park, for a really breathtaking view of Quito, which, let me remind you, is the second higherst capital in the world, ahead of Bogota and behind La Paz. So, climbing up here, and now I understand the snickers of the people in the hosted, had even locals wheezing. |

The city runs a long way through valleys and is really stretched out. |

A popular wall hanging with a motif that one can find all over the region | A very nicely carved door of a church I passed on the way uphill |

Colorful and lovely to look at, but which makes the streets no less steep to walk |
